Art Werkenthin
Founder & CEO, RISC Inc.
RISC Inc.
Art Werkenthin founded RISC, Inc. in the early days of SCORM and quickly established the company as a go-to resource for organizations struggling to implement eLearning standards. At a time when SCORM documentation was dense and conformance testing was notoriously difficult, RISC provided the practical tools and consulting expertise that helped the standard gain traction.
Werkenthin's contributions went beyond his own company. He was an active participant in ADL's SCORM development process, providing real-world implementation feedback that helped shape the specification's evolution from version 1.2 through SCORM 2004's multiple editions.
RISC's tools for SCORM testing, content packaging, and LMS validation helped hundreds of organizations achieve and maintain conformance. The company's work was particularly important in the government and defense sectors, where SCORM adoption was mandated but implementation expertise was scarce.
Werkenthin also contributed to the broader standards community through conference presentations, working group participation, and mentoring of developers new to eLearning interoperability. His practical, implementation-focused perspective helped keep the standards conversation grounded in real-world needs.
